Pros

They are national and do big projects. You might get lucky enough that they will transfer you somewhere when your current job is finished.

Cons

Heavy construction is hardly a field that is considered progressive, but Granite takes the cake. If you are a construction worker epect to work very long hours and to get little in return. As soon as the job is complete they will lay you off with no backwards glance. If you are a women go to any other company on the planet. Project manager told me he thought women were a distraction in the office and did not hire any. They also disrespected and finally ran off a woman on the project who was only there to do a job. These guys harassed her, told stories about her, and made nasty remarks every chance they got. She finally left because she couldn't stand it anymore even though she was a college graduate and had a professional position and worked for another company. Unfortunately, she had to deal with Granite guys and within a very short time refused to go into their office because she got harassed everytime she went in there. They thought it was funny. Really lowlife neanderthals that don't have a clue and if they'd do it to her they'd do it to you. I also was told by another Granite employee that they'd treated a woman on another job in the same way--were so awful to her she left. Big men threatened by women and anybody smarter than they are, which includes just about everybody. I also know of two large jobs they built in two different states. One had horrible pavement problems after they left and the other had a substructure failure less than a year after it was built. No quality in any way. They fought constantly with the owner and blamed everyone else for problems.

Pros

Granite is a great place to work for self-motivated, curious, male-engineers. If you are driven and capable of understanding how to build, you should not have a problem succeeding.

Cons

The "good 'ol boys" attitude at some cost centers is still very prevalent. Also, the amount of hours you are expected to work with little to no rewards.
