The turnover is extremely high, I actually sat in a meeting with the CEO about the fear culture I encountered and this was a few weeks before I was eventually let go. Making minor mistakes will get you canned and asking for too much help will give the impression to upper management that you are incompetent instead of thorough. Beware of recruiters trying to hire you for the position, they can't tell you much about it because Granite doesn't want you to know too much. There is no open discussion about job details and benefits are minimal. I was told by my recruiter not to ask about upward movement in the initial interview, in fact they won't hire people who inquire. That's because there is no upward movement just lateral switches between departments. I've never been collectively threatened so many times with termination. They actually round up the temps every now and then and say we'll be fired if they see cell phones, web surfing, asking the wrong questions, asking too many questions, etc. I was stressed and having panic attacks in my cubicle. Since the few days of no longer working there my acne cleared up and I lost three pounds, so the news isn't all bad. I was upset initially however I came back here to read the reviews and I should have known better. Be mindful of who you work on projects with, even if it's a mistake that you couldn't have anticipated being a new employee you will be held accountable, also there wasn't much training involved. Every Thursday we had to sit with the COO to ask questions however if you asked the wrong question you could be fired (which happened occasionally) you also couldn't ask questions about the macro environment concerning Granite or daily operational things that you should ask your manager. Repeat questions were forbidden which is hard if you're completely new, you were also warned not to be silent either. The fear is warranted people talk in whispers about the company and I thought most were over-exaggerating when I was first hired.
I just don't understand how Granite has no clue how the environment promoted there negatively effects their business. I found myself wanting to duck upper-management after a few weeks there. Asking recently permanent employees about anything related to growth and benefits was done in whispers, cause apparently someone is always listening I was told. Keep your head down and work I was told. Granite clings to archaic and medieval business practices and gives nothing back to employees not even raises. Whoever reads this I'm going to simply request that you look elsewhere for work. There is no upward movement they tell you that in the interview. My one day training the corporate trainer actually told us that Granite doesn't fire people for minor issues. I disagree, you do Granite, you certainly do.
