Pros

A great place to get your foot in the door whether sales or CSR. Graybar often takes chances on people. Additionally, it does have good health insurance and dental.

Cons

Only work here to get in and get out. Coworkers will monitor what you do and tell management and this creates a constant “watching” feeling. Additionally, I personally saw two different emails from management that were sent to the entire office about staff being fired. This email contained the employees name, reason for termination (often poor performance) and would end on “please reach out with questions or concerns.” I have no idea who on earth would reach out to you about that when it isn’t anyone’s business. Also, why it’s the entire offices concern about why someone is let go is by far the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever experienced at a company. Another lacking thing is area of opportunity and adequate pay. I told my direct boss what I wanted to be paid and she laughed in my face (I was asking for a few dollars more an hour) and later said I wasn’t worth it what I wanted. Graybar doesn’t offer areas to grow and move up. In order to do that, you need to be with the company for decades and make sure management likes you. Co workers were CSR level 2’s for 7 years before being promoted to a level 3. Another pain point is micromanaging by supervisors. You are watched with everything you do. Lastly, the stock program is a nice program for young people or if you’d like to stay at Graybar. I strongly advice to not anticipate this being a career company.
