Pros

You get to work with seniors and the disabled community.

Cons

You have to be a certain someone to advance beyond store manager. Very low pay, poor management (owners-rich folks with no clue, GMs-sit around & eat all day, salon managers LOL). No benefits, they will hire anyone with fingers- so you are bound to work with an addict eventually, almost nonexistent breaks… the list goes on. Owners literally give you reward pizza when they hit a big $$$ goal. hahaha Wait, did I say low pay? It’s ridiculous.

Pros

Diverse Clientele and Busy Location

Cons

During my time at this salon, I experienced and witnessed multiple issues that made it a very toxic and unsafe workplace. Lack of sanitation and disinfection practices: Tools were not given the required 10-minute disinfection time before being used on new clients. Bathrooms were unsanitary, with paper towels left on top of trash cans instead of a closed in holder. There was also a mosquito infestation. So you are getting bit all day. Poor communication and leadership: Management & Owners consistently failed to communicate expectations, changes, or feedback in a respectful or timely manner. Owners have no understanding of the beauty industry which led them to rely on the Salon Manager who lacked leadership and certain management skills. They prioritized quantity of services over delivering high-quality results. Unsafe work conditions: Management often arrived late, or when he felt like coming in leaving employees alone in the salon to open and operate without support, which is a safety risk or left them without coverage during peak hours. Toxic culture: There was retaliation when poor behavior was addressed, privacy violations, constant micromanagement from owners, and little to no support when safety issues arose. High turnover: During my time there, three employees quit and two were fired. The work environment drove away good team members. Low pay and no benefits: Pay was minimal, tips were taxed, and there were no benefits or incentives. Employees were not valued, appreciated, trusted, supported, heard, or respected.
