* Managers have way too many direct reports (in many cases over 30 people)
* No ability to collaborate with other engineers
* Little to no management attention (unless Dan the CEO decides your work is important or behind schedule) & no mentorship available
* New hire projects have no senior engineers leading to reduced learning opportunities
* Company has very insular culture -- outside ideas are bad, my way or the highway, dissent is not allowed, etc.
* Stock options not valuable as Dan wants to retain control (IPOing would require relinquishing it).
* Engineers have no information about how what they do relates to the bottom line.
