Pros

Group 1 is the perfect place to go if you are looking to get some job experience. They have numerous turnovers so, it is fairly easy to get hired.

Cons

Group 1 Automotive does not respect there employees. If you are looking for career advancement, then this is not the place for you. Most of the benefits are not really benefits and you can purchase the same types of insurance from outside sources and it would cost you less. Holidays are few and far between and require that you work some of them. In the last couple of years, most of their employees have received pay cuts and the rest have not received raises in years. It seems like there layoffs have all occurred weeks before Christmas. If you are looking for recognition, this is not the place for you.

Pros

There are unfortunately no pros of being a technician at this corporation when compared to other OEM dealers.

Cons

Group1 is a publicly traded company, this means they are only concerned with their bottom line. High paying jobs are funneled to low pay techs in order to bump up effective labor rate. When the stock price goes down they terminate people. There are an intense number of corporate policies and rules that you would not otherwise find elsewhere, that make your life as a technician harder, these policies are also set by people with 0 experience in the field. Everybody is paid just enough to survive, I have seen multiple techs with families that need to have a roommate to get by. There are so many terrible policies that all of the good technicians ultimately left for the most part. This company is just as bad if not worse than automation or lithia. Company advertises a 4 day work week an then makes you work 5-6. DO NOT WORK FOR GROUP 1

Thank you for taking the time to lay out your perspective in such detail, and for the years you spent as a technician with us. We hear the concerns you've raised about pay, scheduling, and the policies that shape the day-to-day for our techs. Professionalism, to us, means building a workplace where skilled people are supported and fairly recognized for demanding work, and that's a standard we hold ourselves accountable to. While we can't speak to the specifics of any one experience, feedback like yours is something we take seriously as we keep working to do right by our technicians. We wish you all the best in your next role.

False hope.

Pros

None. They fail to do what they say.

Cons

Group1 comes in and buys up dealerships and gives everyone false promises. They Won’t buy shop equipment. Or do anything to help the shop when it’s slow. It’s unethical to allow someone to work for 80 plus hours and bring home a 30 hour paycheck when it is their job to bring in the work. The company has everything off site so good luck trying to get an answer quickly on warranty coverage. The best salesman leave due to their unreasonable pay plans. The future of the business is the independent business. All customer pay.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We hear the frustration around pay and around the support shops receive, and we want to be clear that following through on what we tell our people is a standard we take seriously. Integrity and professionalism mean doing what we say we will and giving our teams what they need to do demanding work well. While we can't speak to the specifics of any one experience, feedback like yours is something we take to heart as we keep working to do right by the people in our shops. We wish you all the best in your next chapter.
