Pros

The Dusseldorf office has a great, fun team. Colleagues constantly plan parties, trips, or other stuff together - so if you are new in Dusseldorf, it can be a good way to meet new people faster. Promotions happen frequently - and are given internally mostly. They provide some nice amenities, such as free juices, milk & coffee, cereal and fruit. They have a kicker and ping pong table for breaks and after hours.

Cons

Payment is some of the lowest in Germany. Associates receive around 33k Euro before tax. They like to highlight that work is heavily commissions based, although the commission structure has been severely curtailed recently. In the past, some (those working on key accounts) were able to make a good supplement income through commissions, which has now been cut with a maximum ceiling so that management can get away cheaper. Team structures are advantageous to some (those who are lucky to work on attractive key accounts) and a pain to others (those who work on small or international client projects that do not yield nearly as much). No raise or promotion is given freely in recognition of hard or dedicated work. You either ask for it or remain disappointed. Chances are, you would still be disappointed, even if you ask for it. This job has little to teach or offer to "boost your career" - in fact, it gives you next to nothing in transferrable skills that other employers might be holding out for. They highlight that the ad-hoc project work is "exciting", but it is always the same scheme of progression, no matter the topic. The aforementioned amenities are a way to rope employees in to working overtime (some continue to stay in the office late, until midnight depending on workload). Apart from unpaid/unrecognised overtime, Guidepoint is very inflexible with work time - anytime you have an appointment for anything you will need to ask for permission to come in late or leave early.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate learning about your experience with Guidepoint as a Research Associate at our Düsseldorf office. To ensure there are no miscommunications from the start, we explain our roles in detail throughout the hiring and interview process, which involves an example of the day-to-day in a particular role. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package—which are both fully transparent before and after the hiring process—in addition to office perks and a casual work environment. Additionally, our company continuously looks into further options to introduce new benefits to our employees. No matter the company, every job will sometimes include some extra hours based on client needs, but on the whole, most staff are working 40-hour weeks. Even though we’re committed to our people, turnover is a natural event that all companies experience, but we continue to promote internally and create new opportunities for our employees. Thank you again for your input. Please email us at feedback@guidepoint.com should you wish to continue the conversation about your experience. Best of luck in your future professional endeavors.

Response Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad that you like the job and the training that is provided to our teams. In the US, office hours are until 6, but unfortunately some roles do require extended hours. Since a lot of the clients that we serve work those same hours (if not longer), our client service work day requires a similar schedule to be able to best serve our clients. “Summer Fridays” are a perk we offer in conjunction with the office happy hours throughout the rest of the year. Since Guidepoint has a “work hard, play hard” culture, we try to create balance by offering these and other perks to our hardworking employees. Thank you again for your input.
