Pros

Kitchen stocked with snacks, beer Fridays, casual dress, you'll learn about the market and become a LinkedIn pro if you aren't already.

Cons

"Research Analyst" is a glorified term for a Sourcing Specialist - because that's all you'll do - source potential advisors on LinkedIn day in and day out. If you enjoy an unprofessional environment and a life of monotony from 8:45am (sometimes earlier) - 6:30pm (sometimes later) everyday then this is the place for you. If you don't, then it's tolerable but in no way fulfilling.

Pros

Generally nice people to work with, paid time off, flexibility about leaving early / coming in late if you have personal appointments. HR is very nice here, and cares a lot about throwing genuinely enjoyable events for all. The kids party on Halloween and the Christmas party were some of my personal favorites!

Cons

As a former Research Analyst, the main con for me was the change in commission structure. It is very difficult to make commission because you have to hit a certain threshold in order to get paid for any of your efforts. Under the old commission plan, you were paid per call booked, which is much more fair. The new commission plan was clearly a cost cutting measure, and it made very many people unhappy. Many research analysts (including myself) tried to voice their concerns but management was unwilling to change this flawed new commission plan. Also, something needs to be done about workplace harassment. The amount of disrespectful gossip I heard while working here was asinine...coming from 25+ year old managers! I think a discussion about professionalism is needed. Obviously not everyone is going to get along with each other, but people should have the respect to not voice such harsh opinions in public areas of the office. I think there should be some sort of anonymous online reporting system for people who overhear/see harassment but may be nervous to report for fear of being reprimanded.

Pros

- From an engineering perspective, it's a good place to work if you're looking to learn, experiment, and grow your skillset. - The VP sticks up for their engineers. Challenges engineers to "level up". Fights for competitive salaries and tries hard to keep people from leaving. - I could never complain about anyone that I directly worked with in Engineering and the VP is trying to make changes to how the rest of the company views the department. This team is probably the most fun to be around, hands down. - I was never asked to work late or on weekends. The workload itself was very manageable. - Opportunity to work in a unique industry. - My fantasy teams really thrived with all the extra time I had on my hands for the majority of my tenure at Guidepoint. - Friday lunches were the bomb. - Office is walking distance from Grand Central.

Cons

- Terrible, below market compensation. In a competitive job market for tech talent, the company doesn't do nearly enough to pay for even average engineers. - Many missed opportunities to make great products for clients due to lack of resources and vision. I truly believe the company is squandering its position in the expert network space. - Archaic IT policies/practices. It's frightening how inept the people running the company's infrastructure are. - No opportunity to telecommute. - Non-existent opportunities for career growth. The team simply isn't large enough nor garners enough responsibility to necessitate team leads, directors, VPs, etc. - The culture outside of Engineering is churn and burn. It's disheartening seeing young, bright people up and leave a few weeks after they've arrived.
