Pros

Great staff, from management down to entry level. Everyone was very welcoming and fun/easy to work with

Cons

GC Really needs to adjust their commission policy. Your monthly commission percentage (0.25% to 3%) varies based on your SPH (Sales per hour) bracket. This would be fine, however the way most staff is scheduled; you have LOTS of downtime, which while you can keep busy with many tasks every day, your sales per hour average will go down from having very, very little traffic during certain hours. It feels terrible, when you are meeting your goal at the end of the month in a high bracket, then Guitar Center schedules you to stay late (after business hours) to do merchandising at the end of the month ( while on the clock); and it bumps you down to a smaller commission bracket by a dollar or two different in SPH. Very, very demoralizing. The other problem for us was inventory. We would lose countless potential sales/customers to other GC locations, due to our store not having inventory that our sister-stores did. GC really pushes online (fulfillment) orders to try to alleviate this issue, however most guests/customers that come in, are coming to YOUR store to buy AT YOUR STORE, and not have to wait. It's very counter-productive.

Pros

Guitar Center is one of the coolest places to work. It has an unconventional work environment, while encouraging musical growth of it's employees. I work here because I love the environment, the company and I believe in our business model.

Cons

Guitar Center has a horrible habit of promoting within even though the employee hasn't demonstrated the necessary ability to exercise good judgement & a solid work ethic to lead a team of people and guarantee grow & success of it's stores. Guitar Center also has a habit of constantly changing policies & procedures by implementing changes that are mundane & ineffective while juggling all of the other task associated with running the store.

Pros

There are some pretty rad people working in the Draper Guitar Center (Musician’s Friend etc) Some pretty great discounts on gear

Cons

I mean it’s pretty obvious from all the reviews that the Draper call center has some serious issues in regards to management. It’s just not a professional environment. There’s an aura of macho bravado from your management, including Human Resources. I mean really, just look at the HR responses to some reviews below “I'm sorry your situation didn't work out but writing reviews like this and carpet bombing emails to anyone at the Support Center who will listen isn't the way to handle your personal situation. Time to move on. I wish you luck on your next gig” Does something like that really seem like appropriate conduct for an HR DEPARTMENT? HR is who you are supposed to turn to with problems you face in the workplace, you won’t get that at GC. That alone should be a clear indicator of the problems this company is facing. It’s a real bummer man, I really wanted to like this place.
