Pros

The discount is about the best reason. being able to play instruments any time you want is a good reason. Getting to meet a lot of cool musicians.

Cons

Making money is a difficult task. You meet a lot of a hole musicians........ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . .

Pros

Most people are what musicians would call "chill". Laid-back atmosphere, good wages, etc. Some of the below-the-line advertising is fairly basic, but it seems to get the job done. Many employees are ex-rockers, which can make for some interesting lunch conversations.

Cons

For a company who needs to project the anti-authority that rock music imparts, Guitar Center is pretty straight-edge, and somewhat stifling. In this way, work can pretty dull/ mind-numbing. Also, there's no real grasp of web 2.0 concepts, which can be frustrating, esp if you're younger, and your boss has no clue what myspace/youtube is, and refers to it as "the internets"

Pros

Depending on the location, Guitar Center is a great place to work. If you know about gear, love music, and working with musicians it's even better. The environment is upbeat, diverse, a lot of noise, and deal making. The Labor Day Sale when everything is cleared out of the warehouse and brought onto the floor is the best. Management is great at motivating and building rapport with the sales associates. Everyone is willing and ready to help you out, for a cut of the sale though.

Cons

The only downside was the downside. Unless you have great connections in the industry, it's pretty tough to make a decent check on a consistent basis
