Cutting direct employees while hiring college interns and contractors

Pros

This company used to take care of their own. If you were a direct employee, it was easy to stay on until retirement.

Cons

Now with the reduction in force and the voluntary separation package, Gulfstream is forcing direct employees with several years experience out due to "business and budget issues". They do still hire college interns with no aircraft experience and participate in several community organizations. Why waste all that money that could be used to retain the skilled workers you have now?

Pros

Good pay for interns and I'm guessing other positions

Cons

The company leads with fear. All employees walk around like they are going to be fired at the drop of a hat. The company may be leading the industry in aircraft development, but the company is totally stagnant in all other aspects. A depressing atmosphere to be in especially as an intern. I've witnessed the teary goodbyes from the December RIF and I watched all the employees herd into the hangar to be slaughtered once again in June. I'm young and have my life ahead of me and I'm SO glad I won't be at Gulfstream.

Pros

Good pay, most of the time get at least a week off at Christmas, plus a few more days for new years, then add in saved vacation, easily have at least two weeks off during Christmas holidays

Cons

Management is like a vacuum cleaner it s__ks. So many managers don't have engineering degrees. Therefore no appreciation for what most engineers did to get their degree. Management is arrogant donkey a__h__s. Maybe that is why they are managers. Just have to ignore them. Do you job. Collect the pay check. One of my managers favorite engineer did not even know what pneumatic meant. Maybe that is because she was a high school drop-out, that somehow had been with company so long and made into engineering somehow. What a joke.
