Good Company

Pros

There is a lot of room for advancement however there are good and bad managers for this. I was grateful to have some of the best managers I know out here. Pay is good, company match 6% is good, 2 weeks vacation to start are all great perks. Overtime is almost always available if you like that. 4 day work weeks for many which is nice.

Cons

Not consistent rules across the company (dress code/PTO use/etc) - teamwork is not always present between production, product support, and completions. A lot of training needed on Completions side for many roles. They took away pensions. They took away a lot of the extra fun activities we used to have. Many jobs posted are already spoken for. Lay offs could always be around the corner which is scary

Pros

Room for advancement depending on where you are willing to go.

Cons

Big company, bureaucracy, faceless corporation. Good old boy system takes precedence over job skill.

Great for entry level

Pros

Great entry level gig for engineers, salary is great just starting out (65k). Benefits are solid, people are generally good at their jobs. Very hard to get fired, basically need to time card fraud. Great city, and the planes are pretty good. Free coffee. Shifts and timekeeping are very relaxed, it's a "put in your time" kind of place, just don't abuse it and everyone gets along great.

Cons

Benefits have been trending downward as it goes more corporate vs small engineering shop. Salaries stagnate REAL quick after 3 years of experience. No benefit to staying and putting in your time, best served by leaving and coming back later. Engineering facilities are so painful. It's all varying shades of gray cubicles with zero life or natural light. Sodexho runs the pitiful Cafe, and overcharges for crap food. Engineers are also just painful to work with after 40 years old, probably not just GAC issue.
