Pros

It was a fun first job. I was able to transfer between departments until I found something I enjoyed and became very good at. The hours were flexible enough to allow me to go to school during the same time and the benefits are great. There are locations everywhere, and transferring between stores is 'claimed' to be fairly easy enough. They have great training programs and provide lots of useful help when you are training on the job. There is pretty much a department for everyone, from stocking/labor, to cashiers, to business centers and photo labs. They are not going anywhere anytime soon, and are fairly lenient with who they will hire.

Cons

There is practically no advancement opportunities unless you start off with a degree in Business and walk the Management Path from the beginning. At times it may be hard to gain extra hours, and becoming a 'Full-Time' partner is hard - the actual reasons and path to obtain said status is cloudy at best, and promises to move/add/change hours can be delayed for months, if not years. The environment in a store is very dependent on the people working there, and that can be directly affected by those in charge. If the UD or SD (unit director or store director) is not doing their job successfully, it will carry down through the 'Partners' and affect the customer's experience.

Pros

Great pay with a chance for a raise every 6 months. 10% discount on all HEB brands. Partners who work at HEB for at least a year (with a few other requirements) actually get company stock. Flexible with schedule. Full time partners have the chance to get a 401k, healthcare, etc. Cross training is encouraged if you get hired in one dept, but are curious about another.

Cons

Often harassed by customers with little care by managers. Can take years to get full-time. Drama between employees. Harassed by employees sometimes. You often will have to do things that aren't a part of your actual job.

Pros

Flexible hours with competitive pay / weekly pay / working with friends.

Cons

The management can be pushy and they will have favorites. Favoritism is strong within this company and things can get very political. I have had almost nothing but bad experience with all managers that I have worked with (excluding maybe 2 out of the 6).
