Very bad management

Pros

There are few Good men in architecture division and in some areas in the east. But most of the management in the headquarters are always behind saving themselves from getting sued and giving wrong services to clients. Also they don't want to give required service but just want money from client.

Cons

Management fires you for wrong reasons if they feel they want to lay you off. The company does not understand any situation. Management does not care about employees.

Pros

There is opportunity in chaos. So, there is lots of opportunity if you are able to build a reliable internal network and work in an area of the company that allows for flexibility and outside the department partnerships. Lots of creative, smart people.

Cons

As an engineering firm, sometimes those placed in management roles are pretty analytical and not very visionary so time at the computer "billing" is valued more than building skills and teams for the future. Depends on which office/department you are in on how strategic and supportive senior staff are to junior/mid-level staff.

Great place to work with great people

Pros

The people I worked with made coming to work every day enjoyable and the work we did was rewarding. HDR takes an approach toward projects that aims to satisfy clients without compromising design and make it a great place to work as an architect. I am only leaving because I am moving to another city for other reasons.

Cons

It is a large corporation and does at times lack that "personal" feeling that you get from a small office. My time at HDR was also during a somewhat low point in terms of project volume, which made it difficult to complete some of my IDP hours, I really had to stay on the ball with asking for certain assignments when there was an opportunity to earn the hours I needed.
