Pros
My coworkers are far and away the biggest (and possibly only) silver lining to this job. Everyone who works here is a talented and highly-capable writer, as well as being deeply empathetic and concerned with the success and wellbeing of their peers. That said...
Cons
Management is an absolute nightmare. They frequently enact harebrained and convoluted new policies or systems without informing anyone, so the place is a constant circus. Furthermore, management/HR completely mislead new (and existing!) employees about their rate of pay, how they are meant to be paid (salary versus hourly wage), the nature of their expected productivity, etc., and act like forcing their employees to take on extra work ("bonus projects") because their base salaries are literally too low to survive independently anywhere in the United States is a privilege rather than a complete insult. They also claim that they evaluate new hires' starting rate of pay on an individual basis in regards to experience, education, etc., but THIS IS NOT TRUE: everyone I've spoken to (myself included) has started at the same rate of pay (the absolute lowest amount indicated by their scale of beginning pay on job listings), regardless of years of relevant experience, advanced degrees, etc. Management is like a comic book villain, often micromanaging lower employees to the point that they intimidate/terrify them, and have recently gone so far as to knee-jerk fire two long-standing and respected employees, seemingly due to their justified criticisms of yet another harebrained system enacted with nobody's prior knowledge. Finally, they have recently begun using a secondary company to outsource full time employees' work to contractors, thus diluting the value of the bonus projects that many people rely on in order to make a living wage, while also relegating the worst/most difficult projects to the full timers. TL;DR: management manipulates new hires (frequently new grads trying to break into the industry) into taking a pitiful salary and insufficient benefits, frequently and without warning changes working conditions and working systems (almost always for the worse), has absolutely no regard for employees' mental health/work-life balance, and sees every single employee as disposable. Don't believe a single positive review.
