Pros

HITT is a powerhouse in the industry with robust infrastructure and policies that enables even the smaller regional offices to operate like well oiled machines.

Cons

The New York office has a major gender problem. Women are not evaluated the same as their male counterparts. When women ask for accommodations (such as flexible wfh to care for a young child) they are denied and seen as high maintenance/emotional whereas male employees can ask for the same accommodations as a condition of employment and be approved (real example). Women are overlooked for promotions despite being with the company longer and having more relevant work experience while their male counterparts rise through the ranks. The narrative is that this company is “merit based” but male project managers can lose large sums of money on projects and still be on the promotion track while women on profitable projects are demoted based on their male superiors feeling that they’re “struggling”. When women try and address problematic treatment with their superiors they are dismissed, and when they escalate issues to HR they are retaliated against and iced out of their teams. Male team leaders will specifically plan Happy Hours or team events when they know their female subordinates will not be in the office. A lot of the office is pleasant and easy to work with but when it comes to evaluating performance, the contributions and achievements of women are systematically overlooked. 6 months ago there were 8 male APMs and 7 female APMs (note, APM is the highest rank in operations with a female employee). Since then 3 male APMs have been promoted and 3 female APMs have quit, all due to the discrimination they experienced in this office. The boys club is impossible to break into, and the glass ceiling is very real.

Pros

Competitive pay and clear progression paths.

Cons

All companies express a desire for diverse talent because it leads to diversity of ideas and enhances team and company performance. However, at HITT Contracting, if you do not mold yourself so that you fit their processes, procedures, values, etc. to a T, then you will not last at the company. They only value innovation within the parameters that they have set.
