Management is very inexperienced in both people and project management. Very much an old boys club and the culture they promote is far from what the culture actually is like. Don’t be fooled by the ping pong table and/or keg in the office as a sign that it is a fun place to work. It’s not. Huge disconnect between HQ and the LA office giving management a lot of freedom without much oversight or accountability. Not enough superintendents to cover jobs from start to finish many of whom take 2 week vacations without much notice leaving APMs with no choice but to then step up and play superintendent without even being qualified to do so. The pay may seem worth it at first but if you want to hate your life outside of work and constantly have to fill in for people and management that do not keep their word — find a more established GC to work for.
