Company has a solid reputation for technical excellence. Opportunity to work on large, high-profile transportation projects. Competitive compensation and benefits package. Employee-owned with take over by larger corporation unlikely. Smart, experienced people are willing to give technical assistance or advice when needed.
Cons
Low morale due to lack of enough work to go around. Layoffs ongoing in certain markets. Inability or unwillingness to adapt to market conditions by chasing smaller projects--too much focus on mega pursuits. In-fighting at upper levels seems to affect work sharing and project pursuits between offices. Opportunities to work on large, desirable projects are not equally distributed. Senior management sometimes puts up with loose cannon project managers for way too long. Too much focus on profits during tough economic times--company doesn't seem willing to cut profit expectations to retain good employees.
