Pros

I cannot think of any good reasons to work at this company.

Cons

Management is top heavy and almost 100% white men. There are very few opportunities for advancement if you are a woman or diverse in any way. They squeeze the life out of employees and work/life balance is zero. Think twice before you accept a position with this company.

Pros

HNTB is fairly close to my home. Parking is pretty good for a company located near downtown KC. Oh and the receptionist is very nice.

Cons

HNTB is the least diverse employer I have ever had the honor of working for. From Harvey to three levels below him... all employees are elderly white guys. This is not an exaggeration, this is not hyperbole... There is a cast iron ceiling at this company.

Pros

Good place to rest and pass the time.

Cons

1. Harassment by management is common. 2. The spark from within slogan is just corporate rhetoric. 3. Lots of corporate mandates and manuals that are full of nonsense and are just for show. 4. Corporate annual employee review forms that have a focus on criticizing employees. During reviews managers must fill out sections that criticize employees in order to submit the review form. 5. Company has a corporate derived bell curve model where 10-15% of employees must be designated as “not meeting expectations” or as having “unsatisfactory performance”, in order to meet the predetermined corporate bell curve model. 6. Company doesn’t believe in spending a dime on training or professional development. 7. Elite corporate engineering squad from the corporate office in Kansas City that will come to your office and lock you in the closet so they can supposedly show you how things are done. 8. Culture of discrimination against personal interests. Work place discussion’s about employees interests regarding fantasy football, buying an expensive bike, or running a marathon are deemed acceptable work related discussions. Work place discussions about employees interests in finance are deemed as inappropriate because this is not considered an appropriate work related topic to discuss. 9. Employees are not sincerely appreciated. 10. Managers don’t realize that “Super Star” is just an urban legend. He doesn’t really exist and isn’t a real person. Yet management is always looking past their current employees in search of “Super Star”. 11. Call center type of work environment. Tiny cubes where the whole office is visible and distracting. Big Brother has to be able to keep tabs on you. 12. Rat Race Environment. The mentality is that in order to advance you have to pull down the employees working beside you. 13. Micro Management philosophy. Your manager will chase you around in circles over insignificant issues. Managers make themselves feel important by tearing down their employees. 14. Management tries to threaten and intimidate employees rather than build up their employees. 15. There was a corporate promotional campaign to encourage employees to go into sites like Glassdoor and other social media sites and pump up the companies reputation. Thus, many positive reviews are the result of a corporate campaign to try and improve the companies negative image.
