Pros

Good pay for a civil engineering intern, flexible with intern schedules, get payed for holidays.

Cons

Can get extremely repetitive and boring at times, always have to ask for work, need to have mentors for interns to really help them learn how to design instead of just giving them all the grunt work, no benefits for interns, office is extremely outdated looking with all grey cubicles and needs to be updated to a more modern style.

Pros

Very professional working environment with solid pay and benefits. Opportunities to work on high-profile infrastructure projects that have real impact on communities. Well-defined processes for planning, new business pursuits and professional evaluations.

Cons

Eighty percent of the business is in the transportation sector, which is struggling through changes in how it is funded over the long-term. Other lines of infrastructure business, such as architecture, don't receive the same amount of investment or support. In trying to find out how to remain profitable and competitive, the firm has explored a number of alternative profit centers, pouring talent and resources into them and then pulling back and dismantling them after a few years when things didn't work out as planned. Most of the power lies with the local offices rather than the corporate leadership, which has traditionally struggled to be seen as effective or accessible, although that's changing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would recommend it to anyone who wants a solid corporate experience. But you may find it necessary to move on after a while. If you're among the lucky few or find the right path, you may be able to build your entire career there.
