Engineering is highly politicized because the engineers are treated as production workers. You are expected to quickly and efficiently produce results with no resources and or guidance. This attitude from management fosters a very hostile and threatening work environment. I had my credentials questioned, asked if I was “on crack”, and openly ridiculed by a department head. Peers were quiet, coward, and fearful.

Unless you have connection forget promotions. Taking initiative is punished then on review if you ever get one you are told to take initiative. What? Intimidating work-place from top down like dictatorship.
