Pros

Love working with the students. Their passion, dedication, and commitment to learning and developing skills for the professional world is fantastic.

Cons

Terrible pay, management continues to cut positions but saddles you with more and more work. The Faculty (Professors) create an environment where staff are looked down upon and treated poorly - they frequently do not include staff in communication channels which then creates lapses in productivity. The University's leadership has no clear vision for how to adapt to the changing educational landscape, and continue to defund educational programming.

Pros

Great staff, student, and faculty culture Shifting to new and better ideas in a lot of areas Treated like a professional in a serious, but not overly stressful environment. Despite still navigating many issues Hamline does a better job than many of taking D&I issues seriously.

Cons

Has been continuously reducing the benefits package over the last decade. Pay has also remained mostly stagnant. Hamline chooses to balance the budget off the backs of employees in most years. Only 2 weeks vacation starting.

Great People, Financially Handcuffed

Pros

If you ask anyone at Hamline why they are there, they will say, "the people." Staff and faculty are great people to work with, even if you do not always agree with them.

Cons

At the same time, the people tend to have a small-town mentality with rumors and communications that are done in silos. Plus, decisions tend to be driven by the bottom line, not by advancing student success.
