Great Place To Work

Pros

Most employees are enjoyable to be around. If you express the direction you want to go they will help you work towards your goals. The pay is great for the area. Benefits are good. I have not had any issues moving up within the company and think it is a great place to work for.

Cons

Wish there was vision insurance.

Opportunity to grow

Pros

I have worked at Hampton lumber for over 10 years. during that time I have come to appreciate the "family feel" and really do believe the Hampton family really does care about their employees. I have learned that if you are willing to show up on time everyday, show interest and a willingness to learn, you will have opportunities to grow your career. At times the hours can be long but finding opportunities that can include relocation, good benefits and pay, and working at a company that doesn't treat you as a number is hard to find. Great company to work for.

Cons

Having worked at several other companies and knowing how good we have it makes it difficult to find too many cons.

Pros

Hard to identify the pros.

Cons

The notion of work-life balance is preached but not allowed. You may have three days off on paper but you can expect to work two of those. The schedule doesn't allow for off hours activities. If you have school aged children, you can count on missing out on their extracurricular activities. Sure, every now and then, they'll feed you during the weekend but does that meal make up for lost time with family? The picnic is a joke. There's a committee that pressures you to purchase tickets just so you have a fighting chance on winning a small gift. There are cliques. If you're not a part of one, it's a lonely time at the mill. Management will listen to you. Just don't pay attention to the hundred yard stare you'll get with it. They have a tendency to make snide remarks over the radio for all to hear. Forget about atta-boys. If you make a mistake, instead of teaching, they enjoy belittling.
