Changing for the Worse

Pros

The people at the mills work hard and take care of their communities. The individual mill sites have their problems but the people are all around good people. At corporate there can be opportunity to grow if you have the right manager. Benefits are good including very generous 401k match. Generally good flexibility for salaried employees to take time off.

Cons

The company value of Candor is a complete joke. If you disagree with the wrong people, especially some of the new people at corporate, you are shut down and treated poorly. Upper management cares more about the "bad publicity" of bad reviews than they do about actually trying to address the problems pointed out by the reviews. Attempts at diversity are a joke and not sincere. New HR does not make anyone feel safe or listened to and has removed a lot of the "do the right thing" attitude that used to make Hampton great. Bad employees are kept on for a long time until good employees get sick of it and leave. The lumber traders are untouchable and can do whatever they want to the detriment of young females and minorities who are also employed. The "social justice committee" was a good idea that quickly became a joke of white people wanting to feel better about themselves and "become educated" rather than being an actual source of change for marginalized people. Appreciation is lacking; many people are volun-told into taking on challenging work and then never being rewarded for it.
