Pros

It used to be family owned but sold in 2022. President, Vice Presidents, and Greensboro branch manager were great to work for.

Cons

Regional Managers were oblivious and untruthful. Inventory Issues, after working there 6 years was let go and find out the reason was so that another employees son, who had no outside sales experience, could take my place. Hit my sales budget and profit budget 90% of the time over 6 years and grew my territory. This company talks loyalty but definitely not the case.

Employment separations can be difficult, and we understand that these situations may not always result with a positive feeling. No matter how it may appear and feel at the time of a separation, when emotions are running high, much careful thought and consideration goes into a decision to part ways. Because of our emphasis on loyalty, we take a separation very seriously, and do everything we can to salvage a relationship. Many times, this even involves admonishment when a very clear expectation has not been met by an employee, followed by a second chance. Similarly, our hiring decisions are also made with the same careful attention to appropriate cultural, professional, and experiential considerations before an offer is made. N.B. Handy's core value is making their employees feel like they value you. It's important to know that my 10 yrs of investment had personal meaning and purpose. NB Handy has built a culture around it's employees and customers. Despite your skill level, N.B. Handy provides career growth and development opportunities.

Pros

They don't really care if you come in 5-10 minutes late. There is no real work drama. Depending on the floor at corporate office - you might have to listen to a woman micromanage her 20 year old son all day but just put your head phones in.

Cons

Its a boomer company with boomer ways. You would think with covid they would learn how valuable hard working employees are but it doesn't matter unless you a buyer. 2nd floor of corporate office. If you are in corporate office and not on the 2nd floor you are screwed. They are a cake and pizza reward type company instead of giving you things that could really help your life like the ability to work from home or better pay. That's for 2nd floor only. You only get recognized if you kiss butt. An employee was given Employee of the month and she had literally never replied to an email I had ever wrote her. Not one. I couldn't complete my job unless she completed her which included emailing me back. And when you go to your supervisor and say something the response is " That's just how she is" . You could also go to your supervisor and ask for help and they not have a clue how to help you and tell you to ask another team member. And the pay is not worth the hassle - again unless you are a buyer. You don't get paid enough to babysit grown men and women. The only other review I approve is the one that gave it 1 star. I am pretty sure someone in HR is posting the others. Any company that has to send out an email asking employees to vote in a survery stating that NB Handy is a great place to work is actually NOT a great place to work. If you have hit rock bottom and need a place to work - just to get you through hard time until you find some where permanent - NB Handy is it. But if you are looking for a place to work make great money and retire - I HIGHLY suggestion you find some where else to work.

NB Handy is a fast-growing company with a great culture. Our employees are the heartbeat of the company and it’s because of their hard work that NB Handy is winning. There has been significant change over the past six years, which has contributed to our outstanding success. As with many companies, the interest to work from home increased tremendously due to the COVID-19 pandemic. NB Handy accommodated several requests from employees but being in the distribution industry, we simply could not pivot our entire enterprise to being home-based and still service our customers and deliver products. We do not have an Employee of the Month award, so we’re confused about your “non-responsive team member” comment. Our managers are not expected to know every detail of the jobs within their departments, but they are devoted to getting all team members what they need to do their jobs successfully. Finally, it is not uncommon at all in our “review economy” for companies to ask their employees to post reviews about their work experience. Not everyone is aware of Glassdoor and our intent in making the request is simply to help others in their decision to join or not join the company, just as you have done here with your words. Not everyone has the same experience or perspective. We wish you luck in your new position.
