Pros

Incredibly simple job. No complicated tasks, just strict time limits for everything i.e. all bakery products must be baked, cooled, packaged, documented, and put out on the floor by a specific time in the morning. There are manuals and binders that include every recipe, every product number, shelf life for every product, etc. The job really doesn't require much more than common sense, time management skills, and the willingness to be treated horribly by customers and still smile.

Cons

- Highly disorganized. Highly. Disorganized. - The required training videos are patronizing at best (we all know how to wash our hands) and will not prepare you for the actual job you do. - Rules govern everything down to how high you're allowed to stack pans. - At Harris Teeter I met the most unprofessional, backstabbing group of managers I had ever seen. I'm sure this varies from store to store. - Teamwork is nonexistent. I got a strong impression that the company is incredibly fearful of lawsuits. I was told that I was being groomed for a management position and was also offered a full-time position soon after I started. I declined the full-time position and left the job. I don't think anyone could have convinced me that staying with Harris Teeter and advancing within the company would have been worth the time spent there.

Pros

They pay on average at or better than most grocery chains

Cons

Absolutely no communication from management. It is not a team enviorment and everybody is in it for themselves. Management trainning does not translate from the trainning classes to the store and all theupper store management cares about isif they look bad or specific work pertaining to training was completed. They do not care if you actually learn anything. If you have not figured out you need to cheat during trainning to succeed you won't make it here, and don't go to a co-mgr for help, because it got me demoted because they most likely know less than you.
