Don't work here as a bagger

Pros

You get paid, unpaid time off is given without much complaint.

Cons

Expected to do a lot more than the position asks, new management came in and decided to make me do janitorial work. Have to pick up a lot of the slack of others, don't apply to become a bagger.

Pros

The people at the Starbucks are nice (my department) the cashiers I hear aren't as much. The part time Harris Teeter benefits are good. Technically we aren't allowed to take tips, or have any free drinks or foods, but as long you're not too obvious about it, management looks the other way.

Cons

Worked to the bone, expected to do 10 billion things at once and fabulously and never take a break. And when the starbucks does have lulls or we don't haggard enough- the rest of store thinks we're not pulling our weight and what us to do other random stuff. And our manger is paid as a starbucks lead, but is a full manager while working as a regular barista, and barley managing with orders and scheduling and the other random maintenance that comes with being a manager. And even if we're drawing, we are basically expressly forbidden to turn off mobile orders.

Pros

Job security. Competitive pay. Easy to move up with hard work and common sense. Profit sharing checks. Help pay for college.

Cons

A lot of politics, throughout the company. The company stopped showing appreciation for associates shortly after covid. No pay raises for cost of living increases for any associates outside of upper management. "Profit sharing" checks have been getting consistently smaller. Pay scales have only increased once in the past 7 years, and have only gone up a couple of dollars for store level associates. They run short staffed, constantly, cut employees hours to the minimum they are allowed, and turn around and treat associates like absolute garbage when not every aspect of the job is complete. The turnover rate is out of control, because they don't want to pay, and because they treat their employees like garbage. Upper management's solution? Everytime an employee quits or gets fired, take it out of the department managers pay. They do absolutely nothing to deter theft, other than to dock the department managers pay. They also hire people that have no idea what they are doing at top out pay, because the people that do the hiring need to hire someone so their paycheck isn't docked. You have to pay for your uniforms, the full amount, and they aren't cheap, price wise at least. The material is absolutely trash, I'm sure the company is profiting even on employees buying required uniforms. The company also requires you buy nonslip shoes (if required) from the company website. They do not have a ton of affordable options, the ones that are don't hold up. The expensive pairs don't hold up well either. If you buy shoes anywhere else, even to support a medical brace, prescribed by a doctor with a medical letter, you will get a safety writeup that they will not turn over, even with an additional letter from the doctor. If you ever need to go out for medical reasons, do not return on light duty restrictions, they will force you to work outside of doctor orders, or force you out the door. People's checks are shorted constantly, make sure you double check your hours and paystubs. With the company closing 66 stores, while their biggest competitor is getting ready to open almost 300, that's gotta say something...
