Pros

Paid weekly, bonuses twice a year based on company operating profit. Eight (8) personal hours received on your birthday. That’s all I can think of.

Cons

Harris teeter has been going down ever since Kroger bought the company back in 2015. Severely understaffed and overtime is frowned upon. You will rarely find a store manger that will help on a cash register when there’s only one cashier open on Sunday morning. Front end managers are expected to be clerks, cashiers , personal shoppers, baggers all in one day and expected to get all of their work done on time. This would work in a perfect world if it only happened once a week but it happens every day. People quit all the time and front end managers barely find time to train new hires. Anyway. If you have been working with Harris teeter for 5+ years you will know that this company is going into the ground . Just leave.

Pros

Hiring process was quick. Cashier and bagger work was straight forward and simple. Pay was average. Good first work experience.

Cons

"Promoted" (with no pay increase) to personal shopper after one year, and it was awful. The system was complicated, the work was stressful, we were horribly understaffed (it was myself and four other employees handling 80+ orders a day), and completely overworked. Was constantly expected to stay several hours after every shift.

I would not recommend unless you are just looking for a part time fill in job.

Pros

Some of the benefits are good, except their annual insurance deductible is outrageous, $2500, which is a little surprising from a company this size. But you have to be full time to get the benefits and becoming full time is tricky because there are a lot of inside "conditions" to be a full time employee that are not disclosed in the job descriptions or handbooks. They automatically enroll you into a 401K whether you are part time or full time. Even part time employees get a paid vacation, but not personal hours.

Cons

I expected this company to be better than it was. After researching information from corporate sights and other sources, they made Harris Teeter to sound like one of the best places to work at for grocery stores. But, brace yourself if you go to work for this company either as a manager or as a regular employee. There are many "hidden" things you will discover during your time with them. They apparently don't mind turnovers and aren't really willing to pay more than a minimum to bring you in. They don't fully disclose information when they hire you and tell you things that aren't in the job descriptions or handbooks. It's difficult to be a full time employee, and if you manage to become one, you will end up being their puppet. Believe me, the pay isn't worth it. They allow other employees access to your personal information, rate of pay, and hours worked as well. They are NOT as flexible as they claim, and if a manager gets upset with you they will take it out on you by scheduling you bad shifts. I have yet to have a review, and have received no raises to mention. If you manage to go from part time to full time they give you personal hours based on when you became full time, not when you were hired. So then you have to wait another 90 days before you can even start getting the personal hours.
