Pros

Highly driven environment, learn from and interact act with leaders in their fields, get top quality research experience

Cons

Less focus on work/life balance, personal and professional development and mentoring. Postdoc salaries not great, even though this varies a lot by department. Can be a high-stress environment, very competitive

Pros

Stress-free, loads of benefits and value-added incentives, relaxed work schedules and flexible time, great for working mothers or for those that have another side business or focus going. People do not work overtime except for a few times a year depending on the academic calendar schedules.

Cons

Lower salaries, complacence, things may get into a routine, sheltered from real world competitiveness.
