Stimulating and inspiring research environment

Pros

Obviously a great place to do research, unsurprising given Harvard attracts the smartest people in many fields. Most people I worked with were committed, hardworking, and impressively open-minded.

Cons

Lots of pressure, everybody tends to be quite Type A. Competition is intense. Exhibits many characteristics of a large bureaucracy.

Pros

Good benefits, good work environment. A lot of freedom for career development and work on cool problems. Campus facilities and intellectual atmosphere are hard to match.

Cons

Lots of egos to navigate in order to get the work done. Students can be unfocused due to too much breadth, and in turn not make significant progress in research.
