Crying Shame

Pros

Some very talented and world leading experts who were a real pleasure to work with. These are now an endangered species however as are the very interesting projects that used to be commissioned in all corners of the world. An informal structure that allowed the co to make lots of hay in the recent economic summer. However, shame its now mid winter.

Cons

A Board that hasn't changed its structure and method of operation since nitrogen first entered the atmosphere. Lots of talk of this facile initiative and that new branding but its all sophomoric management by numbers worthy of the extraordinarily arrogant clique of ex engineers that they all are. In this environment, simply out of its depth. Such a crying shame.

How does the CEO have 91% approval

Pros

Nice office environment, good lower level staff to work with.

Cons

Management is so clueless and all lip service. It’s always “great idea” or “we’ll look into that for sure” but nothing ever comes from it. Salary compensation is a joke. We’re underpaid and overworked. You’ll be promised a certain amount but that will never happen, it’s just sweet talk to get you to stay or join the team. Then they hire senior staff who aren’t qualified and are awful at their job but still pay them more than you though you do half their work. The CEO is full of himself. Since COVID started his only and main concern was making sure we were back in the office. It took him too long to send people to work remotely when this pandemic started and he’s finding every way possible to push people back into the office. Productivity hasn’t slipped and things are still getting done on time, but “we’re not and cannot be productive working remotely”. He never answers the hard questions asked to him, and makes himself seem like the best around. All of the board are full of themselves and talk about equality and diversity yet it’s just a bunch of old white men. Career progression is none existent. You just stay in the same role unless you leave and come back. Oh that’s also the only way you get a decent raise is if you leave and come back.

New Hatch is Horrible - Avoid

Pros

Hatch 10 years ago used to have many pros such as continued learning for employees, proper mentorship and personal growth. This changed in ~2016. Now I cannot think of many pros.

Cons

- performance does not matter and is not reflected in monetary incentives - many high performers are overlooked unless they are very vocal about it to management - HR does not deal with unprofessional issues properly - some managers really need to take courses on leadership - poor leadership transparency - compared to its competitors, they have the lowest pay for similar positions - no acknowledgment of company loyalty
