Pros

Excellent benefits for and integration efforts aimed at remote employees. It's a mission-driven company that cares about its clients and its employees. Leadership is very transparent. Salary and benefits are very competitive. I don't think I could find a better company to work for.

Cons

Sometimes it feels like there is some misalignment or friction between the Analytics Services group and the Product Development group.

Thank you for sharing this review and feedback. And thank you for your contributions to our client relationships in the Tacoma area--those are critical relationships, and the work you do there makes a real difference in helping them improve their outcomes. I'm glad to hear that your experience as a remote team member has been positive. This will be a permanent focus for us as a leadership team -- how we ensure that remote team members are looked after and that their experience is optimized. I don't disagree with your feedback about needing greater alignment between services and product development. This is also an area of focus for us moving into 2019, and we'll be pursuing some initiatives designed to improve in this area. Also, thank you for your thoughts regarding simplifying our analytic accelerators. They resonate with me, and I would encourage you to share this feedback with your colleagues in ASO, particularly those charged with maintaining the library of accelerators. I appreciate your daily contributions to the company's mission!

Amazing Company to Work For

Pros

I have been with Health Catalyst for almost 2 months and it truly is the most amazing company I have worked for in my 20+ year career. They encourage every single employee to feel that they are an equal owner in the company. The interview process can take a while, but they really take their time hiring the right people from a culture standpoint. The qualities they look for are smart, hard-working and humble. Compensation and bonus program is generous. The benefits are unmatched, my opinions and I ideas are always received and responded to, and I have yet to come across a fellow employee who is anything but kind and respectful. They truly believe family is #1 and encourage everyone to have that balance. It's not just something they put on their website. I really feel I hit the jackpot. This really is the most amazing company I have ever worked for.

Cons

Lots of meetings - some not as productive as others. This con can also be a pro, as these meetings really do help bring remote employees together often through the day - which is so valuable. So - I'll check back in a year with any "real" cons.

Thank you for sharing this review, and I'm encouraged to hear that the first few months have been positive for you. Work-life balance really does matter, and we are working hard to improve in this area -- and I believe we need to improve here. I see evidence of team members being significantly stretched, and while we appreciate the commitment to the company, we recognize the importance of the pace being sustainable. We'll keep a focus here. Also, I recognize that we do have a lot of meetings -- and I am the source of several of those meetings. I require our leadership team to meet every week for 3-4 hours, and then we meet every week on Monday evenings for a report-out with the ELT, and then we hold ATM meetings every other week with everyone. There is downside to every strategy, and that applies to us. But the upside, to me, of the time spent in these settings is that it allows for significant transparency of communication, it enables a great deal of two-way dialogue, which then drives towards alignment and commitment. But we have to keep things in balance, so as not to contribute to other challenges, including to work-life balance. So we'll keep an eye on this as well. And, finally, I appreciate your advice, and feel long-term committed to keep the team members and their experience as my #1 long-term priority as CEO, and our leadership team feels the same way. Thank you for joining Health Catalyst and for choosing to contribute to the company's mission every day!

Pros

Good pay and benefits, pays for gym membership (has onsite gym in SLC too). Some projects are interesting. Plenty of opportunity to dig in and contribute if you look around. These opportunities are increasing across the company for the most part. You can develop your skills in these projects.

Cons

True, reorgs can be disruptive. Those that remain working with senior management the longest (either direct or indirect) seem to have the best experience. This also often leads to people not using their skills best and to frustration with their roles. Some important decisions are made with missing information that could have been sought. Some products are invested in and pushed without being tested enough first, too. We say we're transparent, but, it really depends on who you work with and your relationship with senior leaders. Managers need to learn to have "fierce conversations" with their employees with enough frequency, and they also need to learn how to be effective managers (or they shouldn't manage). Leadership needs to discern much better on that front --- choosing which people should manage people. True, the Peter Principle is rampant, probably because leadership doesn’t know any better. Right now, we seem to select managers based on their sales, communication, and presentation skills, or on their high technical aptitude. Are those the best criteria? Maybe. Or maybe not.

Thank you for sharing this feedback. I agree that we need to have a measurement infrastructure in place to assess the effectiveness of every manager at Health Catalyst, and we will have that infrastructure in place by the end of this year (2018), as we roll out the 360-degree feedback process. I regret that it's taken us this long to roll this out. That will enable us to spot and then address issues where the team member experience with their manager is sub-optimal. I invite you to share your feedback through this process, and I hope that as we work hard to address issues in the coming months, that you'll see improvement in your team member experience. Thanks again for sharing this feedback. Best, Dan
