Pros

Flexibility and meaningful work. Leaders care about team members, clients, and doing a good job. The people are great - care about their work and each other.

Cons

The benefits have always been the #1 thing keeping me at Health Catalyst. They still are, but they are changing. 401k match has recently been reduced, . At the same time, they are adding some great new benefits like free access to mental health counseling and continue to offer ownership in the company. Over the last year, my job has become more stressful, but leadership has been receptive to feedback and changes.

I appreciate your review and feedback, and feel very grateful to you as a long-time leader at Health Catalyst and in Minneapolis, supporting one of our largest and most critical client relationships. I also feel deep gratitude to you and your colleagues in Minneapolis for your incredibly hard work in supporting the COVID response. This has been very heavy, and I hope we can provide you with opportunities to recharge, to rest, to recuperate, including with clear PTO opportunity and also with greater clarity around expectations for workload. We'll strive to improve benefits as soon as we can, as the company's growth and financial success enables this. This is consistent with our deep belief that team members are at the center of our flywheel and are the source of all our growth and success as a company. Thank you again for all you've contributed these past 5+ years! Best, Dan

Pros

The leadership is committed to the well-being of its employees and the benefits are pretty good overall (they're serious about "unlimited PTO" or whatever it has been rebranded to these days). My experience with management has been that they're proactive, seeking to offer the best it can upfront rather than waiting for disgruntled employees to motivate them into reacting. They're also attentive to the need to change strategies or tactics when they believe that they're wrong or find their plans less effective. Humility is promoted and everyone is encouraged to make data-informed decisions. I'm impressed with how well the leadership navigates personal and/or political issues that come up during company meetings. They're honest, transparent, and say it like it is while still respecting the diverse opinions of the company's demographics. They're willing to make hard decisions, even unpopular ones, rather than just avoiding them. They practice what they preach, sharing seats in the figurative rollercoaster, wherever it might go.

Cons

Unsurprisingly—given the recent 2020 market—many benefits have been getting redefined, reduced, or cut altogether. Conversely, new benefits are occasionally being added, but most of them only present niche value. Trying to make data-informed decisions means lots of surveys, which I've started to ignore to my detriment. For some of the less official ones, giving qualified feedback occasionally provokes check-box conversations with immediate management. As far as I know, these have never backfired—I just dislike hollow conversations. Obtaining the insurance discount each quarter is another check-box. The wellness challenges are certainly creative and probably have a lot of data to back them, but I'm generally more interested in the goals that I set for myself and they rarely allow me to double-dip anymore. I've opted out of that discount more than once.

Thank you for this articulate, well-thought-through, detailed and insightful review. And thank you for your support and for sharing the positives that you've experienced in a critical role like yours -- Senior Software Engineer. I appreciated your perspective of the quarterly health insurance discount through participation in a health-related goal. I just texted our Chief People Officer, Linda Llewelyn, to consider whether we potentially change the structure of the quarterly health goals to enable more autonomy and self-selection of goals for each individual. I also appreciate your perspective of commitment to the company and its mission even when times are tough. Thank you again for this insightful review. Best, Dan

Growing Company with good culture

Pros

Health Catalyst is a great place to work and has a strong culture of hard-working, smart, humble team members and management. It is rewarding to work for a company that has a meaningful mission of improving the healthcare industry by helping hospitals to make better and data-informed decisions. 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone (period), but Health Catalyst has done a good job of helping team members feel secure with their jobs and overall compensation package despite also providing some temporary discounts to customers to assist them through the financial and operational difficulties that have hit hospitals related to COVID-19. This has been very comforting to see that the company and upper management due try their best to put team members first even during such difficult times. Upper management is as transparent as possible with team members and has regular company-wide updates, which helps everyone feel somewhat connected despite essentially everyone working remotely through the pandemic. Health Catalyst has a competitive benefits package with education, fitness allowances, 401k match, HSA match, home office allowances, ESPP, RSU grants, and annual bonuses.

Cons

Working on the administrative side of the company is often quite demanding, especially with the regulatory and compliance requirements of being a public company and the integration of acquired entities.

Thank you for your feedback and for your contributions to our company these past 1-2 years. I appreciate your hard work, and hope you can find balance in your work and in your life. I also appreciate the advice to focus on maintaining our mission-orientation and culture through acquisitions as well. We're trying to focus here and enable this continued attention to team member engagement, and to the mission as we grow. Best, Dan
