Pros

Decent base salary with great shift differentials and very affordable health insurance. The included gym membership is a nice perk. Paid time off and sick days are better than average.

Cons

Constant calls to come in for overtime on days off due to units being short staffed. They will try to push the nurse's limits as there are no set ratios. Also there is an over-abundance of mandatory meetings where they discuss issues that could have been handled via e-mail or don't impact nursing in a meaningful way.

Pros

Health First is one of the largest employers in Brevard County and as such, my viewpoint may not be the same as some from other departments. With that in mind, I find Health First to be an excellent place to work with a competitive pay, excellent health care (perks to working for a health care provider), and for me at least a great team of people (both co-workers and management to work with). While my time at Health First has been short, less than a year, I have heard that prior to my arrival things were much different and there was a significant shakeup in management leading to the great situation we have now.

Cons

As to Cons, I do not see many. My specific duties include late nights at times, but this was expected. Additionally, the bureaucracy can sometimes get in the way of accomplishing things in an efficient manner. As to benefits, some of the benefits do have a 1-2 year waiting period before they kick in depending on what time of year you start. Personally I think that could be better, but the benefits in total are still great.
