Pros

Amazing mission - talent and drive to execute on it Passionate and committed employees Good bonding across colleagues Management strives to make this a special place. Lots of attention to people, not just the product. Management is easy to talk to and reach out. No hierarchy. Great snacks; good food breakfast, lunch and dinner

Cons

Commute times since relocation to San Carlos - despite commuting solutions (shuttle, uber, etc) Bonding across colleagues is slowly fading due to fast employee growth

We're glad to hear that you're enjoying your experience working at Helix! I live in San Francisco and understand the toll moving to San Carlos has taken on our lives. Thanks for bearing with us as we look for options to help decrease the burden on your personal life. Employee bonding and company culture is something that everyone at Helix is encouraged to participate and nourish. If you have ideas on how we can continue to retain and grow our company culture, I'd love to speak with you in person. Thanks again for your feedback! -Derek Talent Acquisition

Pros

Helix is truly a special place with some of the brightest minds across science and engineering working on a mission to bring DNA insights to the population. - Open work place. Co founders are very open about everything including what information is shared with the board of directors. I haven't seen this level of openness in any company I have worked at before - Great mix of a range of smart people from 10's of years of experience at tech companies to fresh out of school - Responsible start up culture: Free lunches and snacks but no extravagant silicon valley benefits like massages - Executives tend to not have any special benefits and they are all very easy to work with - Some executives share rooms when they travel even though it' not required - Overall its a start up with a stable company benefits - I cannot emphasize enough about the calibre of people who are here

Cons

- If you are someone who needs a rigid structure and well defined day-day work plan, this is not for you. Everyone has goals and there is significant flexibility expected to evolve as needed. This is a strength for start ups - Sometimes decisions can be slow as everyone's opinion is heard and respected
