Pros

This is an absolutely challenging position with an immense amount of work-reward ratio. The harder you work the more rewards you will reap from your work. This position is an amazing opportunity to hone your skills as Field management and learn new skills such as field surveying and craft skills. The relationships you make in this position will last you a lifetime. My time as an FE let me hone what I had learned on the craft side of construction and took me to projects I had always dreamed of as a kid. The people you work with will become your family but you also need to realize that they are competition and it could be easy to get lost in this company if you don't show them something impressive.

Cons

Work life balance is a huge con but it's common in the construction industry. If you aren't prepared to work 50-80+ hours a week with no overtime pay this is not for you. If you like a challenge and you love what you do and you see this work as a creative outlet for yourself, you will love it. Management is what you make it, again it's the construction industry there's a good chance your "feelings" will get hurt but at the end of the day management is just as passionate about the job as you are and lessons are to be learned not to be repeated. The performance reviews will "keep you hungry" it doesn't matter if you pull 30+ hours straight with a perfect concrete take off and haven't had one incident on your 40+ concrete pours, you will receive a meets expectation on a review that follows you through the entire time you are still at the company. Your chance to stand out is FE bootcamp and show them that you are willing to do more than the guy next to you to get the job done.

Pros

- Great Company Culture and people - Great Benefits if you stick out the first 5 years - Very interesting and challenging projects - Great exposure to a very diverse spread of scopes and situations in construction. - Holds the gold standard of implementing technology into construction

Cons

- Leadership was lacking, not a company wide issue but on the last project I was on specifically. - Long hours. - Field Engineers make up for labor shortages on projects, Good for experience of the younger employees but takes its tole with the long hours and lack of leadership.
