Pros

Pay: $52000 Benefits: good benefits Employees: There are tons of quality people working at Holland. Lots of experience at the Louisville terminal and as a Supervisor the union employees would answer any question and the senior guys had really good solutions to most problems. Once they know you’re sticking around and that you care they’ll take care of you.

Cons

Hours: as a salaried operations supervisor you’ll work a minimum of 10 hours not to include the extra time you’ll have to be there if another supervisor takes a day off. Your first 1-2 years will be on the closeout shift where you don’t get off until everything is done. We’re talking 12-14 hours a day for the foreseeable future due to lack of employees. Training: It seems that “good luck” and “ do the best you can” are the training mantras of Holland. You’ll get a week to learn an extremely fast paced job where a lot of people are depending on you to be efficient so they can possibly have a life outside of work. Work environment: with the top 2 cons you can probably see that the attitude/ motivation level is rock bottom. In all of the metrics for success that I’ve seen “motivation” is not included in any of them.

Union environment and old teamster thinking makes forward progress slow.
