Pros

It's a full time job with benefits though not great benefits. The most stressful part of work is not rolling your eyes at the stupid people. And there are hundreds of them. Advice: invest in high quality noise reducing headphones and use them the entire time you're at work, especially during meetings.

Cons

There is a tendency to overreact to everything resulting in a lot of wasted time, energy, and money. There is no desire to innovate, they're married and super glued to "the way it's always been done" and I'd even go so far as to say the idea of change frightens and galls management. Progress and innovation are words thrown around but never embraced. There's no incentive to excel as you will be promoted on a "time served" basis. Also, there are staggering numbers of unqualified people hired. As in, they majored in communication or English and work in positions that should require an academic background in science...this is supposed to be a biotech company.

Pros

Great co-workers, at least the one's I still know from the Gen-Probe days. Of the one's I have met that work for Hologic/Cytic, most of them seem caring too. Customer focus is important.

Cons

Loss of Gen-Probe bonuses and perks like FSE of the year awarded trips and yearly meetings. Changes in company car program and increased health care costs, I estimated at least a $10-15,000 annual loss in wages due to these changes. Loss of "family feel" with a small company. Now it is all corporate attitude and giving less to the employee, and caring less about the employee, we are just the no-name worker bees now. Unsure if I will eventually lose my job due to the acquisition. Territories are merging and I will no longer have a Gen-Probe manager. My new manager does not know the Gen-Probe products, so will not really understand my job. Also, I fear he will show favoritism towards his own Hologic/Cytyc employees. Gen-Probe stock was high, Hologic stock is so much lower. Gen-Probe was doing great financially as a stand-alone company, now we are merged with a company that has a low profit margin. We used to get great pay raises at Gen-Probe, now we get next to nothing with Hologic.

Pros

Work-life balance, diverse staff, job with a purpose

Cons

CEO is money-hungry and sucks, max raise has been 2% at best and 0% for most, director sucks, department parties equate to us doing diy arts and craft and hosting in our auditorium rather than a legitimate event, we’re expected to do extracurriculars and still don’t get raises, no adjustment for inflation, and more
