Pros

The salary was decent and there are some really great students and teachers struggling in HISD.

Cons

Prepare to work 60-80 hour weeks with little gratitude. Violence is swept under the rug. Administration was like a revolving door, as was most of the staff. Not only was my campus incredibly violent, but punishment for said violence was light as administration was under pressure to lower the number of suspensions. Pressure was constantly on the teachers to perform and pass students, even if they didn't deserve it. Morale was low among both students and staff.

Pros

None really that I can think of.

Cons

They can re assign you when they feel like it,to another campus or within the campus. It is all about testing and data, treating kids like robots and pushing teachers to do impossible tasks. Principals worried to keep their jobs anyway they can instead of running a school properly. By far my worst experience teaching in11 years. Would not recommend it to any teacher I know. To top it all off, their evaluation system, which was developed for cattle,is not only unfair but ridiculous.

Pros

You have a real chance to change the world or change the life of some kids that are in real need

Cons

Violence and lots of it. Administration that seems rotten from the top down. Student fight involving a knife has both students back in the classroom quickly after a brief in school "suspension" i.e. they nap for a week in a quiet room. Obsession with numbers and data, not so much with students actually learning.
