Pros

Good benefits, time off, and several locations to choose from.

Cons

YOU CANNOT BELIEVE ANYTHING--EVEN YOUR CONTRACT. A signed contract means nothing in HISD. I am not exaggerating. I have seen dozens of teachers file complaints because the contracts they signed were not honored. They were promised huge signing bonuses or stipends that simply WERE NOT PAID. "But I have a signed contract," meant nothing. The union was useless. You are literally at the mercy of administration, and they HAVE NO CONSCIENCE. I've never worked for such a toxic district. The superintendent is a horrible person. To survive in his ranks, you must become a horrible person just like him. Teachers and staff are treated like garbage. Do not expect a smile or ounce of respect from campus and district admin. You won't find either. Expect to have more than one afterschool meeting called each week at the last minute. Expect to be bullied into attending those meetings. Expect no one to care that that time is outside of your contract hours. Expect to have 3-6 walkthrough observations PER DAY. Expect those walkthroughs to be conducted of TEAMS of district and campus personnel. Expect to be harangued within an inch of your sanity. Look up the superintendent. Do your research. Read the articles from Dallas and Houston newspapers. I'm not just a single fussy employee.
