Pros

Pays more than most administrative roles in Houston. There are opportunities for growth if you position yourself and seek them out Great kids and parents who will love you if you show them love, set standards, and establish authority and respect. Teaching has a lot of transferable skills if you know how to market yourself Bonuses are available based on the performance of your students on the state exam

Cons

Negative mindset of teachers: they have low expectations for kids. Low pay compared to the work required to be a great teacher. Quarterly evaluations and walk-throughs that are more about documentation than seeking transformation in teachers. They do not embrace Teach for America teachers as much as they should even though I've observed that TFA teachers create amazing change for the kids and schools. Your teaching experience will be what you make it. The culture of each school and the style of the leader will greatly impact your experience. It's up to you to establish your boundaries, create your work environment.
