Decent Job, But Has Cons

Pros

I'm currently working as a part-time substitute teacher. I'm going on my 2nd year working as a sub. Pros: flexible schedule, you can pick and choose the schools that you want to work at, there is always a wide number of jobs available throughout the year,

Cons

The pay isn't great. I'm hearing that other school districts pay more per hour or day; HISD is one of the cheaper districts to work for as an associate teacher. I've been having a problem receiving a full paycheck on some pay periods. A secretary (or front office admin) at each school is responsible for reporting the associate teachers' pay every pay period. Due to human error, there have been numerous occasions where the secretaries aren't properly reporting the days that I've worked. HISD started using OneSource, and the utilization of OneSource doesn't allow late pays. Therefore, if a secretary doesn't report my time properly, I'm forced to wait until the NEXT pay period before I receive my missing pay. It's been a HUGE inconvenience because (as a common person) I have bills. And when my anticipated paycheck comes up short, I can't pay my bills. Now you will receive the missing pay on your next paycheck. But it doesn't help someone to budget at all. My recommendation is that associate teaching with HISD should be a side job and not something that you fully depend on. There is a guarantee that you will run into this problem because so many associate teachers complain to each other about this very issue.
