      Cons

      The crushing burdens and "blame" unloaded on the backs of teachers. I am a teacher who went through Alternative Certification to teach in a critical shortage area and I am actively looking to leave teaching to return to corporate life.

      administrative support competitive salary for inner city schools opportunities to collaborate on a daily basis with colleagues opportunities for advancement

      Cons

      Because HISD serves a large, inner city area there are many children with socio-economic disadvantages who struggle academically. As a teacher, you are presented with students who are well below the target level as well a those who are on target and well above target level. It can be a challenge to meet the needs of all students; however, I also feel this is one of the most rewarding reasons for working in HISD.
