Pros

Got to work directly with some great students to make a positive impact.

Cons

HISD is too big to be run effectively. Administration at the campus where I worked was unrealistic about the existing problems, and instead of being supportive of teachers, they tended to bully people to do what they wanted. Unfortunately, the students constantly lose go through several teachers a year, as a result of the treatment of staff.

Pros

You get a lot of time off: 2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week for Spring Break, and all the other Holidays

Cons

There are no opportunities for growth. Once you enter the District, you are basically stuck doing the same thing. HISD does not offer any training and their salary levels are low, as opposed to the private sector. Although you get time off, you are not allowed to take it. You are advanced vacation, state, and local time, that you have to pay back, if you leave the District prior to accruing it. I do not recommend this employer, unless you have a family.
