Pros

administrative support competitive salary for inner city schools opportunities to collaborate on a daily basis with colleagues opportunities for advancement

Cons

Because HISD serves a large, inner city area there are many children with socio-economic disadvantages who struggle academically. As a teacher, you are presented with students who are well below the target level as well a those who are on target and well above target level. It can be a challenge to meet the needs of all students; however, I also feel this is one of the most rewarding reasons for working in HISD.

Working with underprivileged students has its ups and downs, but they come to truly depend on you. Some of the faculty can be amazing too.

Cons

The board has allowed the district to go haywire. Many principals lack leadership capabilities.
