      Having the opportunity to be a part of a historical event and teach for HISD was very challenging, yet rewarding.

      Pros

      I loved the opportunity to a part of positive change in this community. There are ample opportunities for professional development and personal growth. I had tremendous amount of support with curriculum resources. If the students needed it, it was provided. Technology resources were a priority and provided; along with the necessary support to use them.

      Cons

      Cons are high stakes testing and the pressure that trickles down from the top. This pressure made it hard to keep in mind that I am a child advocate and the reasons I became a teacher.

      Pros

      It use to be a great place to work if you truly love to teach children ... But now you are forced to focus on teaching to a state test that is overrated and overused.

      Cons

      Abusive principals, unfair growth plans, abusive of planning periods, threaten you to work on Saturdays, will red flag your teacher certification if you decide to leave the district during your, principal will not remove disruptive students from your classroom and tell you that you are at fault, low moral, massive amounts of paper work, excessive abuse of power by principals.

      Pros

      Fac/staff were helpful and kind. Money could have been better after 30 years.

      Cons

      I was injured on the job and could not return as soon as I needed to. I was told by HR, on speakerphone, my position was closed and I would need to find a job myself or wait till the next year and I would be placed. That is how I was shown how much I was appreciated. I spent many hours at school working...most 12 hour days. BEWARE AND GET REVIEWS OF WHO YOUR PRINCIPAL WILL BE.
