Pros

Institute still commands respect as prestigious scientific research organization. COO bringing basic business management practices to running non profit and attempting to build some cohesiveness to the scientific and non-scientific communities.

Cons

Horizontal organization. Limited to no transparency regarding merit increases or promotions. HR has done a poor job of monitoring compliance with stated policies and procedures.
