Culture of fear

Pros

Interesting technologies to work with, lots of customers and big engineering challenges to tackle.

Cons

Culture of fear favoritism. Unless you're not among the blessed few, you will be forced out. Voicing any opinion contradictory to the current way of thinking will land you on the outside looking in. Frequent compulsory "hackathons" that are nothing more than an excuse to force engineers to work until 2am.

Pros

HubSpot has a rare culture that you do not find with most companies. There is a unique balance of a laid back attitude, where often times you do not even feel like you are work, while at the same time everyone is working extremely hard with one common goal in mind. You are surrounded by an extremely intelligent (yet humble) hard working group of people where no matter your place in the company you feel like you are on a team. There is a constant energy running through the place that leaves you feeling excited to be at work and that you are participating in something big. Open door policy does not fully capture how accessible everyone really is – all of upper management, including the CEO, are extremely approachable people who genuinely care about their employees. HubSpot is highly focused on career growth and it is not uncommon to see people try on new roles with full support/mentorship from their respective managers. I can’t say enough positive things about this place – it is packed with an amazing group of driven/friendly people and truly stands behind the “work hard, play hard” attitude.

Cons

The work life balance can be a little tricky but putting your full effort and time in you will definitely reap the rewards.

Pros

If you honestly love major challenge, teamwork, innovating, building, working hard and learning a lot everyday- you'll likely thrive at HubSpot. The back of the company sweatshirts read "We Bleed Orange" (orange being the inbound marketing/ HubSpot brand color), and that is a completely serious statement. The team at HubSpot is absolutely dead set on making marketing better and easier, and the positive vibe of that mission is contagious. The HubSpot mission is really clear... and every employee truly has the chance to look at that mission- and help draw the next phases of the road map, which is just so rare. If you have an idea... you share it. If you want to try something, can articulate why it would be a good idea, and have proven yourself to be an A player- you'll probably get a fair shot at it. Seriously. You won't have any dull days.

Cons

If the above sounds like more than you are really in the market for... those pros could be cons! Yep- HubSpot is challenging, you'll have serious commitments to your team, you'll be expected to work really hard, and be willing to learn and grow. At the end of the day.... you'll say you really did something.
