Pros

There are ample opportunities for you to tinker with things in the lab. Management doesn't have a set of guidelines on how things should be done, so you have a lot of freedom to be creative, just like back in grad school. Sometimes, these new ideas lead to patentable inventions and other cool things. Also, work-life balance isn't too bad. I haven't had to work late or on weekends in at least 3 years.

Cons

The company is very top heavy. There are more managers than employees, or at least it seems. The younger engineers don't like this, because they don't get promoted, so they leave.

Pros

Location close to DC. 401K match, high job security due to little internal and external competition

Cons

with some few exceptions, the comany has very unhealthy culture and work environment. Most smart employees who enjoy working with other smart people and like to be treated with respect do not stay at this company for long. Don't expect to be properly trained nor compensated. Do expect to be bullied, as there are few bullies around, some with fancy titles. The company, with few exceptions, is run by mostly highly paid, semi retired, , unmotivated "leaders" who lack basic skills in managing organizations. Almost every manager has the word VP or Director in their title, most do not even manage a business or manage less than a handful of people. Looks like the company went through some tough time in the past and most of the talent have left. As a result, many were promoted into leading positions. For now the company does not have a lot of competition, but without changing its culture, it will not survive once competition gets more intense with viasat and idirect and gilat are all gearing up.
