Pros

Good pay for long term employees, ok benefits, decent group of employees. Sometimes have time for some comraderie but wondering for how long.

Cons

Wasteful spending, sexual favors in management make for big promotions for young women. And throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks instead of listening to customers. Offers jobs then liquidates them. No regard for full time and management level employees makes for a toxic work environment. Stressful most of the time. Sometimes people get fired for voicing their opinion, so I've kept mine to myself until I found out about this anonymous page.

Pros

Flexible schedule, many opportunities for transfer

Cons

I worked for the company for 13 years, starting in high school. The culture under Randy (CEO) has really taken a nose dive. Hy-Vee used to be a fun, happy, place to work with competitive pay and great benefits. Corporate greed has set in and its all about hitting numbers regardless of ethics. I witness two store directors coming in to "clean house" firing employees with decades of service to "make the store profitable." Area supervisors micromanage to the nth degree, putting pressure on store directors and managers which then trickles down to even the lowest level employee. When you give up your holidays, nights, weekends (every major holiday has an inventory fall near it) there should be a reasonable expectation of a positive work environment with competitive wages.
